The condition monitoring module provides essential information about the condition and functionality of the tool clamps used, which can be optimally utilised for predictive maintenance.
The collected data is processed directly and can be accessed via the dashboard. This includes essential parameters that indicate deteriorating performance or impending faults, such as wear and tear, contamination or collisions (detection of foreign objects).
The quality of workpiece machining is already determined during the clamping process. Real-time monitoring of the parameters occurring in the clamping process includes, for example, the force distribution at the clamp and tool, the force progression over time as well as deformations and displacements of the clamping point.
In conjunction with the corresponding analysis algorithms for assessing the clamping condition, deviations can be detected at an early stage before damage occurs to the workpiece.
Via its sensor system, the intelligent tool clamp provides a view into the forming process. The collected data is evaluated for the specific process and parallel to production, and the analysis visualises potential for optimisation.
For example, conclusions about the tool condition can be drawn from the assessment of parameters such as the closing and retraction force distribution of the press or the deformation behaviour of the slide.
The intelligent tool clamp has digital monitoring functions with which condition, clamping process and production data can be monitored and retrieved. The position directly on the press tool and the common data evaluation of all tool clamps on one slide leads to significantly higher information content.
The data is evaluated in parallel with the process and presented in an understandable way in the dashboard. This enables you to identify potential for improvement in your production more quickly.
The data is analysed by our evaluation software BERGtronic. Specially developed algorithms make it possible to obtain information about the forming process with the help of the recorded sensor data. This allows process deviations and trends to be analysed without having to integrate additional sensors elsewhere on the forming machine.
The behaviour of the machine and tool is recorded as a digital twin in the evaluation software during the calibration of the system. This algorithm can be adapted to other production conditions and thus offers the possibility for agile production.
The crucial factor for development of the intelligent tool clamp was the increasing demand for new types of clamping systems for forming machines. Our objective: to increase process reliability during forming and to reduce machine auxiliary process times – caused by set-up or adjustment processes – as well as machine downtimes.
Strong partners are needed to realise the idea of smart clamping technology. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology, we are continuously working on our intelligent clamping systems to provide you with the best possible support for the digitalisation of your press facility.
