With the implementation of shop floor management at BERG, we bring more transparency and efficiency into our process flows and uncover unused potential in the individual departments. The aim is to strengthen communication and teamwork between employees and managers at the site of value added to optimise the use of resources and ensure reliable, stable production through joint decision-making and solution-finding.
The central element of shop floor management are the weekly short meetings. Klaus Barkmann (Manager Quality Management) is convinced by the instrument: "The 'stand-ups' provide a perfect stage for communication and exchange within the team. Problems are discussed across hierarchies, ideas and optimisation goals are exchanged – solutions can be worked on together. This reduces office gossip and conversations in the passing.”
In addition, department-relevant information and key figures are visualised on shop floor boards so that everyone involved can get an overview of the tasks, goals and current status. Deviations are visible at a glance. This transparency contributes to a learning organisation and creates a sustainable problem-solving culture without assigning blame. This is how we pursue the approach of continuous process improvement.
And when good work gets better and better, our customers naturally benefit from this as well. Through efficient organisation on the shop floor, possible errors and deficiencies can be identified and remedied at an early stage, which ultimately leads to greater flexibility and faster response and processing times from enquiry to delivery.
A vibrant shop floor management will help us to further increase customer satisfaction and strengthen our competitiveness. An important success factor is the active participation and involvement of all employees. Their commitment and ideas help to make shop floor management an integral part of our work culture. Despite all the challenges, the pursuit of continuous improvement remains an important part of our corporate philosophy.
