“The art of continual success against all the odds ...” this, or something synonymous with this, has always been the company philosophy at BERG & Co. As early as 1918, political and economic conditions required the founder, Wilhelm Berg, to name the company “Fabrik landwirtschaftlicher Maschinen Bielefeld G.m.b.H. (factory for agricultural machinery)”. It was only in 1923 that the company could be renamed BERG & Co. GmbH with the corporate objective of “selling every type of machinery and tool from every manufacturer and all related products as well as manufacturing them”.

In 1925 Wilhelm Berg with his staff of 30 at the time, developed hand-operated chucks for lathes, a product which has determined the company’s production right up until today and led the way for the range of specific Berg products – clamping and chucking systems for machine tools.

Innovative action was again called for in the years following 1945 where short-term adjustments to the product range became necessary. BERG & Co. GmbH kept the business running by manufacturing presses for edible oils and pharmaceutical pills up until 1947. Today, automatic clamping systems for workpieces and tools for machining and forming machine tools, as well as handling them, now belong to the extensive range of company products and services.

Karl Bernhard Grautoff assumed the management of the company from his father-in-law, Wilhelm Berg in 1956. It now operates as a third-generation business.
